DIY Window Repair and Replacement Tips Made Easy

4 Steps To Take Before The Window Installers Show Up

If you need to have a window replaced in your home, it helps get your home ready before the installation team shows up. There are a few things you need to do before the installers arrive that will help the window installation process go smoother, such as:

#1 Remove Window Treatments

Before the window installers arrive, you need to get your window ready. Remove any window treatments that you have up over the window that will be replaced. That means you need to take down any curtains, blinds or other window treatments you have up over the window. That will make it easier for the installers to access the window and do their job.

#2 Get Rid of Knick-Knacks & Furniture

If you have any knick-knacks or plants in or by your window, remove them. Additionally, if you have any furniture that is place in front of the window, move it out of the way so that the installers can more easily access the window. The easier it is for installers to get access to your window, the quicker they will be able to complete their job.

If you leave knick-knacks and furniture in front of your window, the installers are going to have to move those items or cover them up.

#3 Remove Outside Obstacles

You also need to remove any obstacles that may make it harder for the installers to do their job on the outside of your home. For example, if you have furniture or a grill that is right next to or near where your window is located, you are going to want to move it. Move any outdoor furniture, gardening tools or other items that may get in the way of your installers ability to safely and easily access your window.

#4 Turn Off the Alarm

If you have an alarm in your house, you are going to want to turn it off while your windows are being installed. You don't want your alarm to start blaring when your installer is working on your windows.

If you have an alarm sensor that is installed on your window, call your security company and have them remove the sensor before window installation people come over. Or, if you can remove the sensor yourself, do so before the window installation team comes over.

Before the window installation team shows up, you need to remove all window treatments, move all knick-knacks and furniture from the window, clear out items outside the window, and turn off the alarm and remove any window alarm sensors from the old window. This will allow the window installation team to get right to work when they arrive.
